Drayke's Travels

It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door.

Photos: Bridgetown Priory

After seeing St Patrick’s Rock we drove west toward Mallow, looking for some lesser-known historic sites. We didn’t find Mallow Castle until the following day, but we did find the ruins of the Bridgetown Priory.

A single sign that we passed and had to turn around for was our only indication of the site. Then a single one-lane drive up to a steep turn off and slope down to the site, it’s down in quite a low spot. There were cattle grazing nearby and a bunch of signs put up in the 70s told us about the various features.

There were two local guys there training their dogs to jump up and down on the stone ledges on command. Unsurprisingly, these kinds of ruins are not as big a deal to them as they are to us.
