It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door.

Photos: Giant’s Causeway

5 September ’15

After the drive up the Coastal Route, we arrived at the Giant’s Causeway. Being yet another big tourist attraction they had a nice visitor’s center at the entrance and a road with busses down to the Causeway itself.

The legend says that an Irish giant Finn MacCool built the causeway to reach Scotland when challenged to a fight by the Scottish giant Benandonner. When he reaches Scotland, Finn realizes Benandonner is much larger than him and flees back across the causeway. His wife Oonagh disguises him as a baby and hides him in the cradle. When Benandonner comes looking for Finn, seeing the baby he decides Finn must be a giant among giants and flees back to Scotland, destroying the causeway behind him.

Beyond the Causeway there are trails and views, and a set of 162 stone steps called the Shepherd’s Steps.

Once again the photos don’t really do it justice, except for the ones that convey how many tourists there were there.
